Retention Water

Retention water is water found inside the affected wall or ceiling. When water start to ingress into the wall or ceiling, the affected area will fill with water and the leakage area will become larger as long as there is no repair done to the source or origin.

After repair work is done on the affected area on the source or origin indicate water IN, water OUT may experience water still dripping from the affected area, Water will not stop immediately as retention water is trapped inside or within the object.

Once repaired work is done, water will stop increasing water into the affected object from the water IN; example: termination of corroded copper water supply pipe.

Water damp stained mark or dripping may be found present on the previous location (water OUT) after repair, it is the retention of water that will take time to dry. Retention water may take days, months to dry subjected to the integrity of the concrete found on slab and how long the leakage has been last discovered.

The wet cloth

How long will it take a wet cloth to dry when it taken out from a pail of water? Will the cloth dry immediately?

When water is squeeze out of the cloth, is this consider dry? When the cloth is hung under sun, how long will it take for the cloth to dry completely? Minutes? Hours?Subjected to how big is the cloth and how hot is the sun.

With the above example, the cloth is used and it take several steps and time for that cloth to be completely dry. Water OUT area is made up of solid material. When there is water leakage from Water IN, that material will ingress with water trap within it.

Compare wall/ceiling with cloth what can be squeeze and hung under sun. Wall/ceiling can not be squeeze and it hidden away from the sun. How long will it take for them to completely dry?

The dryness of the ceiling/wall is subjected to how long the seepage has taken place. The longer the seepage, the longer it will take for the object to dry. The retention water inside the ceiling will only be dry if the source of leakage is repair. As long as there is no more water IN to the affected area, water inside affected area will slower dry off.

As long as there is water still ingress into the object if the source of leakage is not repaired, water would found dripping in water OUT. Once source of leakage is repaired, water will stop increasing into the object. Water inside the object will slowly dry. The drying process is from TOP to BOTTOM as water flow downward.
